Zion National Park / Bryce Canyon / Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah    October 25 - Nov 1, 2019

"Thanks for a great workshop! It was an amazing experience. What differentiated your workshop from others we've taken was your passion and how it rubbed off on us; your subtle, yet direct, coaching of us to get the perfect shot; the fantastic discussions on the trail and at meal time plus the wonderful accommodations and five-star meals. This was a fantastic workshop from a great team. We will definitely be back!"

We've combined the best parts of Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, and the remote western reaches of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument to create a grand tour of Utah's most unique and awe-inspiring locations. For 7 nights and 6 full days in the field, we'll explore and photograph deep narrow canyons, towering pinnacles, and sweeping vistas in Utah's scenic southwestern corner. For the first 4 nights we'll use the historic Bryce Canyon Lodge - a mere stone's throw from two of the park's most stunning overlooks - as our base to explore and photograph both the kaleidoscopic pinnacles and hoodoos of Bryce plus the wild and remote western portion of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. After 4 nights in the Bryce Lodge, we'll pack up and head south to Zion where we'll spend 3 nights at the Zion Park Lodge deep in the heart of the park beneath towering cliffs of Navajo Sandstone. For the next 2-1/2 days, we'll photograph Zion's lush desert oasis and explore its deep, legendary canyons as the trees take on their autumn hues. READ MORE

Dates: October 25 - November 1, 2019
Based in: Bryce Canyon & Zion National Parks, Utah
Maximum Number of Participants: 8
Accommodations: Included in the price of this workshop - In both Bryce and Zion we've reserved rooms in the classic, historic lodges in the heart of the parks; not in the busy towns outside the parks. As with all our workshops, we've reserved the most desirable rooms in each lodge. While in Bryce, each guest will have their own Craftmen-style Western Cabin at Bryce Canyon Lodge for the first 4 nights; a mere stone's throw from two of the most stunning overlooks in the park. After that, we travel south to Zion and have 3 nights in the Western Cabins at Zion Lodge beneath the soaring cliffs of Zion Canyon. We provide single-occupancy accommodations for our guests but offer a double-occupancy discount to couples or other guests who have found another person willing to share a room with them.
Meals: We'll use the restaurant at Bryce Lodge plus a variety of renowned restaurants in Spingdale while in Zion. We'll also have meals in the field during our excursions. We will handle all meal reservations and we'll dine together as a group. The cost of meals will be the responsibility of each participant.
Ground Transportation: You are responsible for your travel arrangements to Bryce Canyon Lodge at the beginning of the workshop, and your return trip from Zion Lodge at the end of the trip. During the workshop, including our travel day between Bryce and Zion, we will share vehicles and carpool to our various photo locations.
Photography Skill Level: Novice to advanced - Jim will work closely with each participant based on his/her individual skill level.
Physical Difficulty: EASY/MODERATE  While we'll have easy, short walks of less than 1/4 mile to many of our photography locations, we'll also have several easy/moderate 1-mile walks plus a moderate/challenging 5-mile round-trip hike through the Virgin River Narrows where we'll have multiple knee-deep stream crossings along the rocky riverbed. For this hike, there is an optional, easy, 2-mile hike along a paved path to the beginning of the Narrows. All hikes in Bryce will be at an elevation of 8,000 feet above sea level. For specific details on each hike, see the workshop itinerary below.

As a field workshop, we'll maximize our time out in the canyons for 6 full days capturing images in a wide diversity of locations throughout the region. We will likely need to adjust this itinerary to accommodate weather and field conditions.
