Hubbard Glacier, Russell Fiord, Southeast Alaska ID# AL-HU-0001
|
Icebergs litter the shore of Russell Fiord in southeast Alaska while the 400 foot-high face of Hubbard Glacier looms in the distance. A long beach lies directly across from the face of this glacier and provides a great vantage point to view huge blocks of ice calving from its face. Every time a skyscraper-sized chunk of ice breaks off the face of the glacier, it sounds like artillery fire. Several minutes later, the resulting four or five-foot waves crash up on the beach.
