Willow Gulch, Escalante Canyons, Utah ID# CM-0556
|
This shallow alcove was flooded by the high waters of Lake Powell back in 1983 when a 200% snowpack in the Rockies almost overtopped Glen Canyon Dam. Now, due to the recent drought, hikers must venture more than 1.5 miles down canyon before encountering the waters of the reservoir. Willow Gulch is located 40 miles down the Hole-in-the-Rock Road south of the town of Escalante, Utah. A couple miles upstream from this location, 200-foot tall Broken Bow Arch sweeps out from the canyon wall.
