On the way to Punch Bowl Falls, Eagle Creek Trail passes through one of the most verdant, luxurious rainforest settings in the Pacific Northwest. While not a large waterfall, Punch Bowl Falls more than compensates for this fact with its beautiful setting as the waterfall plunges into a deep pool at its base. Few places in North America can match the number of magnificent waterfalls found along the forty-mile length of the Columbia Gorge. One of the great rivers of North America, the Columbia has cut a deep trench through the Cascade Mountains on its journey to the Pacific Ocean and served as the route to the sea by the Lewis and Clarke Expedition of 1803.
