The waters in Panther Creek divide into a wide fan as they tumble down the face of Panther Creek Falls in Gifford Pinchot National Forest in southern Washington. The Cascade Mountains create a large barrier to Pacific storm fronts which move in from the open ocean just west of here during the winter months. As the moist air in these fronts is forced up over the high mountains, the air cools and drops prodigious amounts of water to feed countless creeks and rivers. Panther Creek drains into the Columbia River just south of this location. This photograph was captured on 6x7 format film.
