While Entrada Sandstone tends to form arches and alcoves wherever it is exposed all across the Colorado Plateau of southern Utah, nowhere else does it form the concentration of arches as here in Arches National Park. While natural bridges are formed by flowing water eroding a hole through a narrow fin of rock, the formation of arches is due primarily to chunks of rock falling away from the side of a narrow sandstone fin; first creating an alcove in the fin and then eventually an arch as more sandstone falls away. This photograph of North Window Arch is located in The Windows section of Arches National Park. Located on the northern side of the Colorado River north of Moab, Arches is home to the highest concentration of natural arches found anywhere in the world. This photograph was captured using a 6x7 format camera. All photos in these fine art photo galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
