Monsoon thunderstorms of late summer often send flash floods boiling through the side-canyons of the Escalante River and leave small pools in their wake. As the heat evaporates these pools, the mud on the bottom eventually cracks as the clay dries out and shrinks. These beautiful abstract patterns usually don't last long in the popular canyons along the Escalante River as they crumble beneath the boots of hikers or the hooves of cows, but here in this seldom-visited tributary canyon of Harris Wash, they remain untrammeled. This black & white horizontal photograph was captured with a 6x7 format camera. All photos in these fine art photo galleries may be ordered as fine art black & white framed prints or for B&W stock photography usage.
