| Milford Track, New Zealand. A hiker pauses to view MacKay Falls in the Arthur Valley along the Milford Track in Fiordland National Park on the South Island of New Zealand. This 37-mile trek through enormous glacier-carved valleys in Fiordland National Park begins on the shores of Lake Te Anau, crosses over Mackinnon pass and ends at the edge of the water on Milford Sound. Hiking along this magnificent track is like walking through a Jurassic jungle with giant tree ferns, countless waterfalls and dripping moss-covered undergrowth. It's not unusual to receive 4 or 5 inches of rain in a 24-hour period in these mountains making it one of the wettest places on earth. |
