| Milford Track, New Zealand. Two trekkers negotiate a swing bridge over the Arthur River on the Milford Track in Fiordland National Park. This magnificent 37-mile track through deep glacier-carved valleys is like walking through a Jurassic jungle with giant tree ferns, countless waterfalls and dripping moss-covered undergrowth. The hike begins on the shores of Lake Te Anau and ends three days later at the edge of the water on Milford Sound after crossing MacKinnon Pass. Along the way, Sutherland Falls, one of the highest in the world, plunges more than 1900 feet down a glacier-scoured wall. |
