The Entrada sandstone which forms Metate Arch in this black & white photograph of Devil's Garden in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument has eroded into an assortment of fantastic shapes.Located just off Hole in the Rock Road near the Escalante Canyons region of southern Utah, this area holds some of the most beautiful redrock country on the Colorado Plateau. Entrada Sandstone is perhaps most famous where it forms the arches in Arches National Park. Where it is exposed here along the base of Fifty-Mile Mountain, alcoves and hollows are much more common than arches. This black & white vertical photograph was captured with a 6x7 format camera.
