These narrows along Secret Canyon are at a location 130 feet below the high-water mark of Lake Powell. Before a severe drought nearly emptied the reservoir in the year 2005, they were smothered beneath a reservoir sediment layer 25 feet deep. As the reservoir level dropped due to this drought, the accumulated sediment was washed out of the canyon by flash floods, all the way down to the pre-reservoir streambed, thus restoring the pre-reservoir conditions found here. When the reservoir was last full in 1999, the surface of the water was higher than the top of the frame. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Utah. Photo Date: April 2005. This vertical photograph was captured using a 6x7 format camera. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
