Big Cottonwood Creek drains the rugged heart of the Wasatch Range east of Salt Lake City and serves as one of the main water supplies for the Salt Lake City Valley. The creek begins 10 miles upstream of this location as snowmelt high in the glacier-sculpted valleys above the small town of Brighton. The 11,000- foot peaks which form the southern ridgeline of Big Cottonwood Canyon squeeze prodigious amounts of moisture from the clouds during the winter season and provide an average annual snowfall of nearly 500". This melting snow provides a dependable summer water supply for this otherwise dry region of the West. This panoramic photograph was captured with a Fuji GX 617 panorama camera.
