| The Rimrocks, Utah. The intermingling of Page Sandstone with the Carmel Formation has formed an area of bizarre hoodos and bluffs known as "The Rimrocks" at the southern edge of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. The Paria River drains this region south of Bryce Canyon National park where, over the eons, water has carved some of the most fantastical formations found anywhere on the Colorado Plateau. The layer of clays exposed here erodes quickly in the torrential rains which pound this region during the last summer monsoon season.
