| Escalante Canyons, Utah. Eons of flowing water have carved the Navajo sandstone of this slot canyon into beautiful undulating waves. The reflected light bouncing off the canyon wall just out of view on the right serves to accentuate these sensual forms. The effect of this reflected light changes quickly as the sun moves through the sky, providing a different scene throughout the day and throughout the year as the sun changes its declination above the horizon. The Navajo Sandstone which forms this canyon began as drifting dunes which covered this area 190 million years ago. This cycle is completed today as the sandstone erodes back into new dunes of drifting sand. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage. |
