| Aspen, Colorado. The bright white bark and golden leaves of aspen trees makes them easy to identify during the brief period in late September when they turn entire mountainsides into a brilliant patchwork of colors. A member of the willow family, aspen bark is the favorite food of the beaver and the tree is used by this aquatic mammal to construct dams and lodges. At this elevation, aspen are the first large trees to re-colonize burned-over areas and quickly fill entire mountainsides. This grove of aspen is located just above Maroon Lake near the town of Aspen, Colorado. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage. |
