Mount Sneffels, San Juan Mtns, Colorado    ID# 617-CO-SJ-5-BW

Mount Sneffels, Colorado. The Sneffels Range forms the northern edge of the spectacular San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. Topping out at 14,150 feet, Mount Sneffels (right) rises above aspen-covered slopes just west of the town of Ridgway, Colorado. The San Juan range began to rise at the beginning of the Laramide Orogeny about 60 million years ago and contains thirteen of the state's fifty-five summits higher than 14,000 feet. During this period, extensive volcanic activity spewed enormous amounts of material across the region. The scenery we see today is mostly a result of the recent ice-age glacial advances which carved deep valley and created many of the precipitous peaks. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
