| Aspen trees, Wasatch Mountains, Utah. Mountain Dell Canyon is located a few miles east of Salt Lake City in the Wasatch Mountains of northern Utah. While the higher elevations of the Wasatch Range hold pure stands of aspen trees, this hillside, located at a relatively low elevation of 7000' contains a mix of red maple with a complementary understory of rust-colored oak scrub oak. The maple trees are the first to take on their autumn-colored hues in early September while the aspen trees usually lag by several weeks.
