| Koosah Falls, Oregon. Located near the headwaters of one of Oregon’s most magnificent rivers, Koosah Falls plummets 82 feet into the pool at its base in the upper right portion of this image. Koosah is the largest of the three major waterfalls along the McKenzie River; the other two being Sahalie, just upstream and Tamolitch, a few miles downstream. Koosah is a Chinook word meaning “sky” which may refer to the rich blue color of the water. Fed by the large snowpacks of the Cascade Range, the McKenzie flows west through luxuriant moss-covered old-growth forest before it joins with the Willamette River near the town of Eugene.
