| Lancaster Falls, Oregon. Named after the designer of the original Columbia River Highway, Lancaster falls plunges 300 feet into the Columbia River Gorge on the Oregon Washington border. This final 25-foot segment of the waterfall along Wonder Creek provides ample spray to sustain a verdant moss-covered grotto at its base. While this lower portion of Lancaster Falls is viewed from the Mount Defiance trail, the much larger upper tier is all but hidden by the dense vegetation. Wonder Creek originates at Wonder Spring, less than one mile upstream on the side of Mount Defiance. The consistent wet conditions of the Columbia River Gorge provide copious amounts of moisture to sustain countless waterfalls along its 40-mile length just east of the city of Portland.
