Big Cottonwood Creek, Utah    ID# 617-WW-12

Big Cottonwood Creek, Utah. Along with Little Cottonwood Creek located just south of here, Big Cottonwood Creek drains the core of the Wasatch Range east of the Salt Lake valley and serves as one of the main water supplies for the Salt Lake City area. The creek begins 10 miles upstream of this location as snowmelt high in the glacier-sculpted valleys above the small town of Brighton. The 11,000- foot peaks which form the southern ridgeline of Big Cottonwood Canyon squeeze prodigious amounts of moisture from the clouds during the winter season and provide an average annual snowfall of nearly 500". This melting snow provides a dependable summer water supply for this otherwise dry region of the West. An exposure of several seconds blurred the water as it flowed around the boulders in the creek. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
