ID# 617-OR-CG-11 Elowah Falls, Columbia Gorge, Oregon. This elegant shaft of falling water drops more than 200 feet along McCord Creek in the 292,500-acre Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area of western Oregon. Due to a geologic quirk, the Oregon side of the Gorge contains the overwhelming majority of the waterfalls found here compared with the Washington side just across the river. Due to the abundant rainfall and its low elevation, the Columbia Gorge is a verdant paradise of enormous old-growth firs, dripping moss gardens, waterfalls, and ferns all along its 80-mile length. Mount Hood towers more than 11,000 feet into the Oregon sky just south of here. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage. |
