Avalanche Creek, Glacier Nat'l Park, Montana
ID# 617-MNT-GP-47

Avalanche Creek Gorge, Glacier Park, Montana. Since the end of the last ice age, glacial meltwater has carved this narrow gorge into the bedrock along Avalanche Creek just above it's confluence with McDonald Creek in Glacier National Park, Montana. Finely ground-up glacial silt carried along in the flow gives the water its brilliant turquoise color. An exposure of several seconds was used to blur the acid-clear water as it poured through this slot in the rock. An old-growth forest of Cedar and Douglas fir provides a cool green canopy along a short trail to this creek. The water in this creek originates nearly one vertical mile above here in the Sperry Glacier high on the side of Gunsight Mountain. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
