Uinta Mountains, Utah. Arguably one of the most beautiful mountain settings in Utah, Christmas Meadows occupies a glacially-carved basin nearly 9,000 feet high on the north slope of the Uinta Mountains. Here, along the Stillwater Fork of the Bear River, the waters pause in deep, trout-filled pools beneath 12,700-foot Ostler peak. The Bear River meanders nearly 300 miles through Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho before ending its journey in the rich feeding grounds of the Bear River Bird Refuge at the edge of Great Salt Lake. As the highest mountain range in Utah, the Uinta Mountains support an ecosystem more typical of the northern Rocky Mountains of Wyoming and Montana. This range is one of only a few ranges in North America with its axis aligned east/west. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
