Saint Mary Lake, Glacier National Park. Ten-mile long Saint Mary Lake was gouged during the Pleistocene Epoch by a huge glacier which originated high on the sides of Mount Jackson and Logan Pass less than fifteen miles upcanyon. 8881' Red Eagle Mountain rises above the morning mist at the top right of this image taken during early October when the cottonwoods and grasses along the lake have taken on their autumn hues. The pointed summit of 8792' Split Mountain rises in the center of the image. 15,000 years ago, the center of Glacier National Park was a vast icecap spilling glaciers far out onto the Great Plains. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
