Mount Timpanogos, Wasatch Mountains, Utah    ID# 617-UT-WS-50

Mount Timpanogos, Utah. Rising above the early-morning fog of Utah's Heber Valley, 11,750' Mount Timpanogos provides a sparkling backdrop for a bald eagle as it warms itself in the sun while perching in the frosted branches of a cottonwood tree. Named by the indigenous people to this area, Timpanogos roughly translates to "water on rock". You'll agree this name makes perfect sense once you hike its trails and witness the numerous cascades of tumbling water amid some of the most spectacular displays of wildflowers found anywhere in the west. Vast cirques and basins were gouged into this mountain by an abundance of glacial ice as recently as 12,000 years ago. A remnant of a glacier from a much more recent cool period still persists high in a cirque just under the summit ridge. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
