Athabasca River, Jasper National Park, Canada    ID# 617-CN-JS-2

Jasper National Park, Canadian Rockies. The Athabasca river begins its long journey as glacial meltwater at the foot of the Columbia Glacier in the vast Columbia Icefield high in the Canadian Rockies south of the town of Jasper, Alberta. The turquoise waters of this icy river flow northeast into Great Slave Lake and then eventually drain into the Arctic Ocean via the MacKenzie River. In this image, the Athabasca is still relatively small as it flows north towards the town of Jasper below 9,063' Pyramid Mountain. A brilliant sunset illuminates the sky and paints the surface of the river a vivid magenta on this late summer evening in Jasper National Park. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
