| Colorado River, Grand Canyon, Arizona. Dutton Point offers one of the few places where the Colorado River can be viewed from the rim of the Grand Canyon. Named after a member of the late 19th century exploratory party of John Wesley Powell, this promontory juts far out into the canyon from the north rim. Topping out at an elevation over 9,000 feet, the Kaibab Plateau of the Grand Canyon continues to rise higher into the Arizona sky as the geologic forces which created this canyon continue to exert their forces deep within the earth’s crust.
