| Waterfall, Zion National Park, Utah. Zion has hundreds of waterfalls within its boundaries as the well-watered high plateaus of the park shed their waters into the deep canyons below. The waterfall in this image cascades over a ledge of maroon-colored Kayenta sandstone. Kayenta Sandstone is more resistant to water erosion than the overlying layer of Navajo Sandstone and thus forms series of waterfalls along canyon bottoms wherever it is exposed.
