| Spooky Gulch, Escalante Canyons, Utah. Spooky Gulch lives up to its name as one of the narrowest, darkest and most claustrophobic canyons on the Colorado Plateau. It's so narrow in places that even the leanest person needs to turn sideways in order to squeeze through its narrow confines. When exploring this canyon, avoid days with potential thunderstorms as flood debris can be seen wedged nearly 30 feet overhead. As a small upstream tributary to Coyote Gulch in the Escalante Canyons of southern Utah, this area is protected as part of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.
