Grand Staircase Escalante Monument, Utah. An ephemeral shaft of sunlight illuminates the floor of this small tributary canyon to the Dry Fork of Coyote Gulch in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. This and a myriad of other canyons eventually drain into the Escalante River in the heart of the Colorado Plateau region of southern Utah. Located just outside the border of Glen Canyon National Recreation area along the Escalante River, this small canyon was protected when the national monument was designated using provisions of the Antiquities Act by President Clinton in 1996. Most of the West’s landmark parks such as Grand Canyon and Grand Teton were originally set aside using this act originally singed into law by President Roosevelt in 1906. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
