| North Window, Arches National Park, Utah. While Entrada sandstone tends to form arches and alcoves wherever it is exposed all across the Colorado Plateau of southern Utah, nowhere else does it form the concentration of arches as here in Arches National Park. While natural bridges are formed by flowing water eroding a hole through a narrow fin of rock, the formation of arches is due primarily to chunks of rock dropping away from the side of narrow sandstone fins or alcoves with the remaining rock forming an arch.
