| Delicate Arch, Arches National Park. As one of Utah’s most-photographed natural formations, Delicate Arch plays host to hundreds of visitors every day. During spring and fall as many as 200 people may cluster around the arch every evening as the sun goes down. As an underlying salt dome bulged up over the ages, countless long thin fins of Entrada Sandstone were produced across the surface of this region north of Moab, Utah. Due to the forces of erosion and gravity, large chunks of rock fall out of these free-standing fins to form, at first, holes in the fins and then eventually arches. In contrast, natural bridges are formed along the course of a stream as the flowing water erodes a hole through a narrow fin of rock in its path. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage. |
