Waterfall in Zion National Park, Utah
ID# 617-UT-ZN-139

Zion National Park, Utah. Zion National Park is home to countless ephemeral waterfalls which rise from the rocks every time it rains. Within several hours of the cloudbursts which create these displays, the waterfalls have vanished. The small perennial stream which produces this small cascade along Zion Canyon may increase in volume a hundred fold in a matter of minutes as late-summer monsoon thunderstorms dump copious amounts of water on the bare Navajo Sandstone just upstream. The flood waters produced during these episodes can quickly turn the normally-calm Virgin River into a dangerous torrent of rocks, logs, and other debris as it sweeps its way along the floor of Zion Canyon. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
