| Spirit Island, Maligne Lake, Canada. Located south of the town of Jasper, Alberta, Maligne Lake occupies a deep glacier-carved valley in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. A large glacier flows down the flanks of Mount Brazeau at the head of the lake and dumps its silty meltwater into the streams which fill this lake. This silty mix of glacier powder tints the waters of the lake a cerulean hue in summer as the glacier melt reaches it peak. The upper reaches of the lake provide miles of quiet paddling beneath the Elizabeth Range. |
