| Emerald Lake, Canada. The President Range provides a dramatic backdrop for an afternoon paddle on Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park in British Columbia. The waters of this lake take on a cerulean hue in summer as the meltwater from glaciers on the peaks above the lake flows into the lake with its burden of ground-up glacial silt. Suspended in the water of the lake, this milky solution absorbs the light at the short end of the visible-light spectrum causing the water to appear blue green. Located just west of the Continental Divide and Banff National Park, Yoho Park is home to Takakka Falls and the Yoho Glacier which flows down the valley just east of here. The Canadian Rockies is home to a string of fabulous parks including Kootenay, Yoho, Banff, Jasper, & Kananaskis Lakes to the south of here. |
