A small stream along Coyote Gulch carves smooth grooves into a layer of Kayenta Sandstone in this photograph in the Escalante Canyons of southern Utah. These canyons contain some of the best remaining evidence of what the renowned canyons of Glen Canyon were like before they were flooded and lost beneath the waters of Lake Powell. For nearly 100 river miles beginning with its headwaters on the Aquarius Plateau to the north, countless spectacular side canyons drain into the Escalante on its journey south to the waters of Lake Powell. This photograph was captured on 6x7 format film. All photos in these galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
