The 89,400 acre Vermilion Cliffs - Paria Canyon Wilderness area straddles the Utah/Arizona border east of the town of Kanab, Utah. These two wilderness areas encompass some of the most bizarre examples of erosion anywhere on the Colorado Plateau. A unique confluence of geological events has produced a dizzying display of hoodoos, swirled sandstone, coral-colored sand dunes and windswept stone basins. Due to the dry climate and frequent cloudbursts during the late-summer monsoon season, any soil or sand which accumulates here is quickly swept away to reveal the bare bones of the earths crust. This black & white horizontal photograph was captured using a 6x7 format camera. All photos in these fine art photo galleries may be ordered as fine art black & white framed prints or for B&W stock photography usage.
