This photograph was made high on the rim of the Grand Canyon from Toroweap Overlook in Grand Canyon National Park as the last rays of light illuminate blocks of Esplanade Sandstone. Sitting at an elevation of 4500 feet above sea level, Toroweap Point floats nearly 3,000 feet above the Colorado River and Lava Falls Rapid seen at center right in this photograph. One of the huge lava flows described in image # 67-AZ-GRC-125 can be seen at right center where it flowed down into the canyon and dammed the Colorado River. Remnants of this lava dam still cling to the wall across the canyon more than 1,000 feet above the river. This horizontal photograph was captured with a 6x7 format camera.
