In looking carefully at this photograph, you can see that the two round shields were painted over more ancient Barrier Canyon style artwork. Some have suggested that these figures represent turtles. The long line of white splotches was most likely created by the artist filling his/her mouth with white pigment and spitting it onto the rock. Located under a protective overhang on a north facing cliff in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, this site is well protected from the elements and is in quite good condition. This panoramic photograph was captured with a 6x17 panorama format camera. All photos in these fine art photo galleries may be ordered as fine art framed prints or for stock photography usage.
