| White Canyon, Utah. A canyoneer contemplates the next bend in the canyon in the depths of the Black Hole of White Canyon in southern Utah. The headwaters of White Canyon originate high to the east on top of Cedar Mesa near the headwaters of Grand Gulch and eventually flow into Lake Powell in Glen Canyon just below Hite, Utah. Since this entire region was pushed upwards by colossal geologic forces beginning about 10 million years ago, the sandstone layer-cake of the Colorado Plateau has been incised with countless deep, narrow canyons. |
