Dirty Devil Canyons, Utah. The Dirty Devil Canyon system is one of the most remote major canyon complexes in southern Utah. Paralleling the Green River of Canyonlands National Park, the Dirty Devil River flows into the Colorado River just above Hite, Utah. Major John Wesley Powell gave the Dirty Devil its name during his first exploration of the Colorado River’s canyons in 1869. He based the name on the muddy flow of water entering the Colorado River as he floated by.
