| Havasu Falls, Grand Canyon. Havasu Falls plunges 100 feet from a travertine lip along Havasu Creek below the town of Supai on the Havasupai Nation in northern Arizona. A high concentration of calcium carbonate carried in solution causes the water to take on a brilliant aquamarine hue. Less than a mile downstream, Mooney Falls plunges 190 feet into a deep aquamarine pool as the water continues it journey to the Colorado River, six miles downstream from this location. The village of Supai, located one mile above Havasu Falls, is accessed by no road and can be reached on foot, horseback, or via the daily helicopter flight. |
