East Canyon is located less than 10 miles east of Salt Lake City in the Wasatch Mountains of northern Utah. A kaleidoscope of yellow and green aspen trees and red maple trees dominate the hillside in this photograph. While the higher elevations of the Wasatch Range hold pure stands of aspen trees, this hillside, located at a relatively low elevation of 7,000 feet contains a mix of both aspen and maple. The maple trees are the first to take on their autumn hues in early September while the aspen trees usually lag by several weeks. This horizontal photograph was captured with a 6x7 format camera.
